Give Cyborg a 145lb Woman’s Division

The Queen of Curitiba Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino steamrolled yet another opponent last night at UFC Brasilia. Lina Lansberg was built up to be a world class kick boxer and I am sure she is but Cyborg is on a whole other planet. Unfortunately for Lina it looked like a complete mismatch, although she did show great toughness and heart by taking some serious punishment from Cyborg.

Cyborg boxed her up in the first round and dominated all the inside space in the grappling exchanges against the cage. The second Round was no different with Cyborg going straight down the middle landing heavy shots to the nose of Lansberg. The fight was eventually stopped shortly after Cyborg took her down and finished her with powerful ground and pound.

Everyone knows at this stage this catch wight scenario is completely ridiculous. Cyborg is the 145lb Invicta champion and is in my view the top woman’s p4p fighter in the world. The weigh cut down to 140lb is an absolute killer for her, with videos of her crying and fainting in her hotel room this week during the brutal cut, its more that disturbing.

The UFC have the responsibility to look after their fighters well being but they more or less give her the ultimatum, fight at 140lb or you cant fight in the UFC. They know, we know and she sure as hell knows this is not in her best interests health wise. Dehydration from the type of weight she cuts is a serious health risk. By forcing Cyborg to drop down to a 140lb catch weight for micky mouse fights they are potential damaging one of the worlds greatest unnecessarily. Give Cyborg the respect she deserves and give her a 145lb division in the UFC. Fighters such as Rousey, Holm and Tate could fight at 145lb if they wished.

Build it and they will come.
