The Prospect; Yair Rodrìguez
With a split decision win over Alex Caceres on the main card at UFC Fight Night 92, Yair “Pantera” Rodriguez continues to pave his way in the UFC featherweight division.
The 23 year old Mexican born fighter, who’s last loss came back in 2012 by way of ko in Rd 1, won TUF Latin America in 2014 and is currently on a 5 fight win streak in the UFC with an overall professional record of 9-1.
Rodriguez who is a black belt in Taekwondow, is just as skillfull with his hands and has a slick ground game. He has a flashy fighting style throwing plenty of spinning kicks and back fists to keep his opponent on the defensive. He can close the distance with lightning speed and can land flurries of devastating kicks and punches to his opponents. From his back he is always active dealing damage with short elbows and punches, given the right opportunity he can catch opponents with submission’s with two of his wins coming from the ground one by armbar the other triangle choke.
The featherweight division is one of the most competitive devision’s at the moment in the UFC, the top 10 is stacked with killers such a champion Conor McGregor, interim champ Jose Aldo, on fire Max Hollowly and hard hitting Jeremy Stephens. Rodriguez who was ranked #13 before his win over Caceres may need one more W before the move up the rankings into the top 10.
Another prospect in the featherweight devision is Dooho Choi who is ranked #12 and is on a win steak of 3 with a professional record of 14-1. Matching these two up would be a great test for both fighter’s and an exciting fight for the fans both being excellent strickers. A win for either fighter will put the first L on the others record in the UFC and will shoot themselfs up into the top 10 and into contention.
