Daniel Cormier, “The decision to not fight on April 23rd was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make”
April fools day is always a hotbed for false stories and pranks. Alexander Gustafsson took to Facebook posting what seemed like a heart felt retirement speech. He later released a video with a smirk on his face saying, “it was just an April fools guys, I was just kidding”.
On Inside MMA a series of events occurred after a video interview with Bas Rutten and Micheal ‘The Count’ Bisping. Bas questions Michael asking, “have you spat on somebody lately”. The two go back and forth arguing in what could only be called an Oscar worthy performance, as it turned out, da dah?! It was an April fools prank.
So with the news of Daniel Cormier injuring his foot and not been able to compete at UFC 197 the vast majority said this had to be another prank. DC took to Instagram today with this statement, ” The decision to not fight on April 23rd was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make. I’ve been scheduled to fight 18 times and I have made that walk every time. I want to apologies to Jon Jones, Lorenzo Fertitta, Dana White and all of the UFC fans for not being able to defend my title. This truly saddens me, but with everything else in life, it goes on. The recovery should not take very long and I cant wait to compete and defend my title again. For all the fans, thanks for your support, I appreciate each and every one of you. DC”.
Lets hope Daniel has a quick recovery so he can get back into the octagon as soon as possible to defend his light heavyweight belt.
